Step 1
Who your clients are matters more than your AUM.
Morrowgate Private Wealth works with business owners, individuals and families in Rochester and Western New York. Gregory Garone, CEPA®, leads the planning. The firm’s business-owner focus includes decisions around a sale, a family handoff, and life after ownership.
A whole practice or a handful of relationships. If your clients would fit here, it is worth a conversation.
If your clients own businesses, are preparing for retirement, or need investments, estate planning and a major life transition coordinated, that is the work to discuss with us. Start with the situations your clients bring to you, not your total assets under management. Then judge whether Morrowgate’s scope and service model meet those needs.
Review how Morrowgate works with clients and learn more about the firm. Tax and legal professionals remain responsible for their respective advice.
Step 2
What the first conversation should settle.
- What you want to change about your working life, and on what timetable.
- The kinds of clients you serve and the service they expect, without identifying details.
- What a successor must preserve, and what you would be willing to change.
- Which platform, ownership, operational or approval questions need answers.
- Whether there is enough mutual fit to justify a deeper discussion.
The goal of the first conversation is simple: decide whether a second one is worth having.
An inquiry is not an offer to buy, a valuation engagement, or a commitment to provide coverage. It is an opportunity to establish whether further exploration makes sense.
Step 3
Six things we would have to put in writing.
| Topic | What the discussion needs to resolve |
|---|---|
| People and capacity | Who would lead relationships, provide backup and handle onboarding |
| Service and economics | Planning scope, fees, investments and the proposed client experience |
| Platform compatibility | Custody, systems, agreements and implementation requirements |
| Your role | Duties, permitted activity, timetable and compensation |
| Transaction feasibility | Decision makers, potential funding, approvals, diligence and terms |
| Continuity | What would apply if a key person became unavailable |
Before moving forward, establish the proposed relationship team, onboarding capacity, funding, and required approvals in writing. An exploratory conversation does not establish a purchase offer or emergency coverage.

Questions about working with Morrowgate
Is Morrowgate an independent practice broker?
This hub presents educational resources and Morrowgate as a possible successor. Morrowgate may have its own interest in a potential arrangement. Use independent advisers to evaluate your interests.
Do I have to be ready to retire?
No. You can begin with questions about a future transition. An exploratory conversation does not establish a transaction or coverage obligation.
Can you promise a particular price or transition structure?
No. Any arrangement depends on mutual fit, diligence, required approvals, and definitive agreements.
How do I start?
Use the existing advisor succession inquiry form. Describe your goal, timing, and the question you want to resolve. Leave out client names, account details, and confidential documents.
